The Rev. Eugene Stockstill

It is a common experience to be coerced into identifying yourself with all the villainous activity in the passion narrative.

Here’s how it works. I am Judas who sold out for 30 pieces of silver. I am Simon who three times denied. I am the soldiers mocking and scourging. I am gutless Pilate washing my hands of it. I am Herod demanding some sort of show. I am the crowds shouting “crucify him!” I am the scornful thief on the cross. I drove in the nails.

THE REV. EUGENE STOCKSTILL is pastor of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
