Ripley's Krys Moreland had a hit and several key defensive plays during the Tigers' 2-1 loss to Kossuth on Thursday

RIPLEY - A pair of highly-ranked area squads squared off on Thursday, as the Daily Journal’s No. 8 ranked Kossuth visited the No. 10 ranked Ripley Tigers in what turned into a gritty defensive battle, one in which the Aggies came out on top 2-1.

Ripley (16-5) put Korbin Smith out on the mound to start the game, and he and the Ripley defense kept Kossuth (16-3) off the base paths for the first four innings. Ripley managed to get leadoff batters onto first in the first two innings, but were unable to bring them home, while leaving another baserunner, Krys Moreland, who had the game’s first hit from either side, stranded in the third.
