Sunny side up

I am amazed at how moments in life are remembered by those who lived them. One dear friend told me a story a few years ago about how she and her sister were looking at a photo that was made of their family in the depths of the Depression. There were six children in the family, but their mom and dad managed to hold heart and home together, although it wasn’t easy.

Their mother was a good seamstress, and their dad was a farmer and logger. My friend said they always had food on the table and clothes to wear. The mother could do wonders when “remaking” old clothes so they could be worn again. Their dad did what farmers and loggers usually did – worked from daylight to dark. My friend and her siblings were in elementary school during those hard times. After happy days came again, four of the six children graduated from college. The two that didn’t attend college had successful businesses. My friend said looking at the photo of her parents and siblings caused her to remember those hard times vividly.
