Hamilton school nurse Chelsey Jones presents the idea of universal suicide prevention protocol for the Monroe County School District during last week's school board meeting, which was approved.

BECKER – Following a presentation by Hamilton Attendance Center school nurse Chelsey Jones during April 21’s meeting at the Advanced Learning Center, the Monroe County School Board approved district-wide protocol regarding suicide prevention.

She said statistics show one in six adolescents ages 12 to 17 in the United States experience a major depression every year, and one in nine have serious suicidal thoughts. Jones has witnessed a consistent and concerning increase in student mental health crises in the past year.
