Remembering when choosing a Valentine's Day gift was simpler

Valentine’s Day is Saturday and that means there are decisions that must be made. Back in the day there weren’t many choices when it came to what to give friends and loved ones on this special day but now, oh, my goodness! There are major decisions that must be made. There are simply too many valentines from which to choose.

Now one must contemplate whether a simple card decorated with a weird drawing of some of these outlandish “hero” characters is the right choice, or if maybe one that plays a song when it is opened would be better. There are some cards that are as large as a bouquet of flowers and cost almost as much. Right after Christmas I received a catalog in my mailbox that is filled with an array of cards, stuffed animals, sweatshirts, pillows, pictures, candy and puzzles. All wish a happy Valentine’s Day in bold letters. One of the stuffed animals that caught my eye in that catalog is red and white with red hearts sprinkled all over the white portion that is his face and body. It looks a little like that cute bear has a good case of heart-shaped measles.
