The birds of Sardis

Before the first light of dawn begins to break over the trees at Sardis Lake, I’m out on my kayak looking for my subject to photograph. Weaving between the cypress trees in the cool and quiet mist, I paddle towards the open space of the lake while I listen to the occasional call of the birds waking to the new day.

I pause for a moment in my vessel on the glassy lake admiring the reflections of the towering cypress trees and I see that the morning has begun. I notice the stark contrast of a white form on the water, it’s an egret hunting in the distance surrounded by mist.
