As the end of April approaches, the month of May looms on the horizon in our hamlet of Hurricane located in the beautiful Hill Country of North Mississippi with two full moons on the calendar beginning on May 1st with the “Full Flower Moon” as it’s the peak of the spring season and expect a spectacular once in a “Blue Moon” on May 31st as it completes two full moons within a month’s span. As the spring has progressed, the local greensward of our countryside is a given, and the wildflowers create a beautiful landscape in our “neck of the woods.” Also, we have been on our annual spring trek to the “Land of Enchantment” in New Mexico, and our family’s consensus was that the tumble weeds flying by our truck indeed announced that the “Valley of Fire” that is known as the Malpais lava flow was a desolate area of land, but abundant wildlife inhabited the area as antelope, elk and a variety of birds were thriving in the Rio Grande basin’s western towns. When we got to the Lincoln County line, the signs touted that you have entered “Billy the Kid” territory as the infamous outlaw is part of the local lore and legend within the present day Mescalero-Apache Reservation as our own conversations turned to our preferences of the “green, green grass of our homes” located in the old “Chickasha” or Chickasaw homeland.
On Sunday night, April 19, the congregation enjoyed the special music presented by a trio of the Montgomery sisters, Scarlett, Ansley and Gracen, as parents attending were Brent and Tera. During the morning service, Tera presented the special music with a traditional hymn. Bro. Larry Duffer preached the evening message.
