pont cross

The cross was raised Monday.

I watched the work crew raise the 120-foot cross along Highway 278 four-lane just west of Pontotoc Monday afternoon. It took those men about an hour and a half to carefully lift and then lower the cross onto the base section which had already been erected in heavy concrete. They began lifting the cross about 2 p.m. and it was fastened down right at 3:30 p.m.

A large crowd of folks of all ages watched intently from a safe distance in the grassy field. Lots of folks watched from their cars parked alongside both sides of the four lane.
