The members and auxiliary of Pontotoc American Legion Post 16 gathered on March 26th at the First Choice Gateway Pavilion to observe and celebrate the 107th birthday of the American Legion. The well-attended event was presided over by Post 16 Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Derek J. Holland, and welcomed Veterans and currently serving military members as well as their families. The celebration featured ceremonial observance assisted by Post 16 Chaplain, Steve Bramlett, and Sergeant-At-Arms, Lee Sewell, as well as outdoor games and a potluck style picnic in an open air, tailgating sort of atmosphere. In concurrent recognition of Women's History Month, the proceedings included recognition of women Veterans and service members as well as grateful acknowledgement of all women in attendance. Live music was provided by the local Jason Carter and the Healers band whose members additionally included Brad Bailey, Riggen Bullard, Shane Stafford, and John Howard Stafford. Pontotoc American Legion Post 16 encourages area Veterans and military members and eligible family members to consider membership in the post and its auxiliary. Additional events scheduled for this month include a blood drive and annual fish fry on Thursday, April 30.
